The Texas Department of Transportation is about widen a roadway and bridge in Bowie County in Northeast Texas.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has approved plans to widen a section of Farm-to-Market Road 991 and add safety lighting to US 67 east of Redwater.

“We will be widening a 0.2-mile section of the highway from US 67 to just west of Akin Creek, and this will include replacing the bridge over Akin Creek.  We will be widening the highway from 24 feet to 44 feet, which will allow for two 12-foot traffic lanes with 10-foot paved shoulders,” said Kenny Icenhower, area engineer for TxDOT in Texarkana. “In addition to widening the highway, we will also be installing safety lighting along US 67 from just west of FM 991 to east of FM 2148 to help improve nighttime visibility for motorists at these intersections.”

FM 991 will be closed to through-traffic while the bridge is being replaced, so motorists who normally use this roadway will need to find alternate routes to their destination.  Traffic will be detoured onto US 67 and FM 991 through Redwater.  Detour routes will be signed.

CDM Holdings of New Boston was awarded the contract for the project with a low bid of $1.1 million.

Work on the project should begin in March 2015 and take about four months to complete, Icenhower said.
