Two Homicides In a Span of Hours Have Texarkana, Texas Police Busy

Texas-side police detectives are investigating a pair of homicides that occurred in a span of about eight hours.

Texarkana police have arrested Marshall William Vallejos overnight for his alleged involvement in the homicide of Casey Smith on March 29, 2016.

Detectives identified Vallejos, 22, of Texarkana Ark., as a person of interest early in the investigation and had been looking for him since yesterday evening.

Officers received a call from Wadley Regional Medical Center at approximately 2AM today, March 30, saying that a man had come to the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his leg.  When officers arrived, they discovered that it was Vallejos, the man they had been seeking. After being treated and released by the medical staff, he was interviewed by detectives.

Vallejos was arrested and charged with Capital Murder.

Detectives believe Valleros was one of three men who attempted to rob Smith in front of a residence in the 2400 block of Mamie Street yesterday afternoon. When officers responded to 9-1-1 calls from people who reported hearing shots fired, they discovered Smith lying beside a vehicle in front of a residence. Smith, who appeared to have been shot several times, was found deceased.

The second homicide in Texarkana occurred around midnight last night. Police were called to the 2000 block of West 18th Street on a report of a shooting victim in front of a residence at that location at 12:14AM  this morning. When officers arrived, they found 27 year old Deandre “Shawn” Bush of Texarkana Texas, slumped over in the front seat of a parked vehicle.

Officers attempted to provide first aid to Bush but quickly determined that he was already deceased. Bush had what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds to his body. Police said they believe he was shot through the open driver’s side window from a close distance as he sat in the car.

Bush’s body has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Dallas for an autopsy. Police say there is no indication at this time that the two deadly incidents are related.
