The Texarkana Arts and Humanities Council presents "Art Fro Everday A Celebration of Functional Pottery" through October 24th.

Chris Thomas is the featured artist and here is a little biography information about her. After receiving her B.S.H.E. in Family Studies and Child Development from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Chris Thomas enjoyed being a full time mom and volunteer for various organizations. As her children graduated and discovered their passions in life, she explored her own. While serving on the board for the Texarkana Repertory Company and studying for her second degree, a Bachelor’s of Theology from St. Gregory’s University/Little Rock Institute of Theology, Chris decided to enroll in the ceramics course at Texarkana College in late 2009. Her strong devotion to clay has been growing ever since resulting in pieces exhibited in TRAHC’s Annual Juried Exhibitions and a thriving business producing functional pottery.

Chris says there is truth to the statement that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. In the case of functional pottery, beauty can also be found in the hands, mouth, and ears of the beholder. The weight of a piece, its touch against the skin, and its music in the wind add to the experience of this craft, the origins of which date back a hundred thousand years. Whether it be a bowl of soup, a mug of coffee cupped in your hands, a string of bells, or a garden light, it is this artist’s intention that each invite the beholder to take a moment to listen to the quiet spirituality of contemplation. To invite the beholder to wonder how it was crafted, to appreciate the emotion stirred by color or form, or to just be. Art comes into our world this and every day; may you see it in yours. Pax et bonum…peace and goodness.
