It’s finally the political season in the Lone Star State of Texas. The filing period for candidates to register to run for office is now underway. The period was set by a three judge panel in San Antonio that has been overseeing the legal dispute concerning the redistricting maps.

The Texas Primary has been set for May 29th barring any other legal holdups. The primary was first set to occur tomorrow on what is Super Tuesday across the country, but was delayed until April then put on hold again after various legal disputes and rulings.

Democrats and minority groups fought the maps drawn last year by the Texas Legistlature which is under Republican Control. They argued that the maps discriminated against minorities and would cut back on their representation. Republicans and state leaders say the maps were legal.

Various local, county, district and state races are up for grabs this year including the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by the retirement of Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison. The GOP Presidential Primary is also part of the spring election.
