Texarkana College is gearing up for another exciting Kids’ College this summer for kids ages 7-12.

According to a press release from T.C., students who enroll can participate in a wide range of different classes such as multiple sports classes, Lego-Robotics, Google Coding, Future Chefs in the Making, Cosmo Kids, and many others.

Kids’ College was started in 1993 as part of the Community and Business Education Division.

“For 24 years, Texarkana College has provided thousands of kids from grades 2-6 the opportunity to design robots, solve crimes, explore creative art, engage in cooking classes, and much more all while discovering new friendships in a fun and educational environment,” said Kristi Hart, TC Community and Business Education Director.

Kids’ College is a two-week summer enrichment program for children in grades 2-6. Kids’ College programs engage youth in creative activities that build artistic and academic skills, develop discipline, enhance problem-solving skills and decision making, and create a sense of achievement and personal worth. This program brings together a diverse group of children who want to expand their learning experience on a college campus.

“We are excited this year to add two academies to Kids’ College,” said Hart. “Junior Firefighter and Junior Police Academy will introduce students to the field of law enforcement and firefighting to provide an opportunity for youth to connect and build stronger, positive relationships.”

The Junior Police Academy will introduce children to the fascinating career of law enforcement. It will teach an understanding of the law and respect among individuals at a critical age of development. Junior Police Academy students will get the chance to learn first-hand what it is like to serve and protect our community. Students will explore activities for the week including off-campus field trips, presentations and exposure to police work.

The Firefighter Academy will be offered for kids age 9-12 and will allow them to learn about firefighting and all aspects of firefighter life. Students will go on a fire station tour, learn about firefighter protective clothing and breathing apparatuses, be introduced to CPR and first aid, and have hands-on use of fire extinguishers. Students who complete this course will receive a Junior Firefighter Certificate from the Texarkana College Fire Academy.

“Kids’ College is a kaleidoscope classes that give a child an early taste of higher education,” Hart said. “It provides activities that will challenge their mental, physical, and creative selves.”
