The Texas High Tigers will be on the road on Saturday heading to "The Star" facility in Frisco to take on Highland Park in the 1st round of the Texas High School Playoffs.

These Tigers have been on a roll since a slow start at the first of the season, finishing 7-3. Texas High Head Coach Gerry Stanford says, "Each week we've progressed in all areas. We have been able to take small steps to be able to get to this point."

This is Stanford's first year as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Texas High, and he says it's been great. He said, " I think this team has been able to overcome so much adversity and keep moving forward."  The players suffered an enormous loss, when one of their teammates, Leonard Parks, died in his sleep the day after the team's first game back in September.

Texas High  beat Pine Tree big time last Friday to round out the regular season. Coach Stanford said there was some players who graded out well both offensively and defensively. They include, Quarterback Riley Russell, Running Back Tracy Copper, Defensive Tackle Jaylin Franklin, Safety Jaylin Stewart, and Demarquis Vaugn.

The Tigers will tangle with Highland Park. Stanford says they are ranked for a reason and a very experienced team. However, he says, "We are very excited for this opportunity."

Stanford says it will take a complete effort from his team to win the game, "Being very efficient, take care of the ball, and great special teams play."

This Tiger team has been improving with each week and is looking sharp heading into the playoffs. They and their fans will get to enjoy the venue of "The Star" in Frisco.

These Tigers may just have a little surprise for Highland Park.

Kickoff is slated for 2pm Saturday.
