On Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at noon, Dr. Doris Davis, Texas A&M University-Texarkana Professor of English, will speak about some of the accomplishments and challenges of nineteenth-century women composers and will also perform example pieces written for piano. She will play on a fully-restored, antique, grand Steinway that dates from 1870 that was donated to the university by Texarkana resident Clara Ayers.

A&M-Texarkana’s Honors Program is sponsoring the presentation, which is offered in acknowledgement of Women’s History Month. It will take place in the third floor Atrium, University Center, A&M-Texarkana.

The presentation includes pieces written by Amy Beach, Lili Boulanger, Cecile Chaminade, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, Clara Wieck Schuman, and Adaline Shepherd. The event is open to the public.
