There are plenty of activities coming up in this month for Texarkana, Ark., school students in Texarkana.

Thursday, October 8, Union students will take a health education tour to Health Care Express and CVS Pharmacy. The tour will begin at 9:30 AM at Health Care Express. During the tour students will view x-rays and learn how the x-ray machine works. Students will participate in hands-on exercises as they learn about living healthy lives. Following the tour, students will travel to CVS to learn how to prevent the spread of germs.

Join the district on Tuesday, October 13, 5:30-6:30PM, at the Arkansas High School Red Wall for EAST Night Out. Students from College Hill Elementary, College Hill Middle School, North Heights Junior High and Arkansas High School will present their Environmental and Spatial Technology (EAST) projects for the 2015-2016 school year. EAST Night Out is a great event that reconnects community partners with the schools by providing an inside look at the projects students create that impact their community. This event is student-driven. The students plan the program, prepare the activities and logistics of welcoming the community to a night of sharing and celebrating.
On Saturday, October 24, the Arkansas High School Razorback band is sponsoring the Four-Man Scramble Golf Tournament at the Texarkana Golf Ranch. Registration opens at 7:45AM and tee-off is at 8:30AM Tournament fees are $75 per person or $300 per team. All proceeds benefit the Arkansas High School Razorback band. For more information contact Ashley Harris or Darin McKissic at 870-774-7641.
North Heights Junior High will hold its annual Uniquely You Day on Tuesday, October 27. “We all remember those awkward days of walking into the school cafeteria trying to decide who to sit with,” said Principal Theresa Cowling. “You feel out of place and isolated.”
Uniquely You Day is designed to encourage students to identify and cross social and cultural boundaries. Understanding that the cafeteria is the place where divisions are most clearly drawn, the staff will use creative seating arrangements and questions to allow students to get to know each other while they eat lunch. The objective is to allow the students to learn more about each other and develop a mutual respect.
On Uniquely You Day, students will start the day at 7:50AM by watching three student-produced videos on celebrating the uniqueness of each individual in their school. Students will wear Uniquely You t-shirts that were created in Art class during the weeks leading up to the Uniquely You Day.
Lunch sessions will begin during “A” lunch – 10:45AM and end at 12:30PM after “C” lunch.
