Stray Black Lab at the Animal Shelter in Texarkana [VIDEO]

Look at this stray dog. He is a Black Lab and currently at the animal shelter in Texarkana known as the Animal Care and Adoption Center of Texarkana, Ark. He was picked up on Will Greer Road on Monday, April 25.

He was apparently with a Yellow Lab who is also at the animal shelter now. Please share his info so we can get him back home.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this beautiful Black Lab. He looks to be full blooded. I used to have a Lab and I just had to go in his kennel and get some Lab-loving. He is very sweet and young. If his owner doesn't reclaim him within the five-day hold period, he will be available to go on the adoption floor or unfortunately he can also be euthanized at that point. It depends on space, temperament and illness. He seems to be a well tempered dog and looks very healthy. There have been studies that show black dogs are almost invisible in shelters. He is a great dog. Let's make sure he doesn't go unseen.

The animal shelter in Texarkana, Ark., often faces issues of having enough space for all of the animals coming in. There are not nearly enough adoptions occurring daily to make room on the adoption floor for all of the dogs that are available to be moved up. What options do they have? If you see a dog that you would like to foster, find a rescue group to pull the dog. Check here for a list of the rescues.

You can sponsor a dog which means that you will pay the fee to have the dog fixed and get a rabies vaccination. Once that is done, the adoption fee will only be $40, which makes it much easier to get a dog adopted from the shelter.The Animal Care and Adoption Center in Texarkana, Ark., is our only animal shelter in town. They have a few hundred dogs and cats that need to be reclaimed or adopted. Room is always an issue at a city animal shelter. We feature an animal each week to help get the word out about many of these great pets.

It is so unfortunate that there are so many dogs and cats euthanized every week in our local shelter. It is up to the community to prevent it. Spay and neuter your pets. The shelter's adoption fees range from $40 to $144, depending on the gender and size of the animal or whether they have been spayed or neutered yet. You can also have your pet microchipped for only $20 right at the shelter. That way if your pet is ever lost, he or she can be returned to you quickly.
