A stabbing on a Texarkana, Texas Independent School District School bus this morning sent one student to a local hospital.

According to T.I.S.D. Public Relations Director Tina-Veal-Gooch, the incident occurred at 7:50AM  on Bus 601 (which was subbing for Bus 587 routes) at 22nd/Hazel Streets. Gooch said three female high school students got into a fight. One female student was stabbed an estimated 5-8 times and transported to Christus St. Michael Healthcare System with non-life threatening injuries.

According to Goodh, the victims wounds have been treated and the family is waiting on a physician to determine if any surgery will be necessary.  Texas High School Principal Brad Bailey has been with the family most of the morning.

One female student was taken into custody by T.I.S.D. Police and interviewed. She is expected to be taken to the Bi-State Justice Center before a judge and faces possible charges of  Aggravated Assault. The third student was questioned and released.

A standard pocket knife has been found and appears to be the only weapon on the bus.  The 25 students -- all high school students -- were on the bus and those students were removed and then placed on another bus, taken to another location and questioned as to what they saw happen. According to Gooch, from all accounts it appears that this argument started last night on Facebook and resulted in the incident this morning.

The Texas High School Principal, Brad Bailey, contacted the parents of all remaining children to let them know what had happened. Many parents picked up their student for the day while some students continued on to school.

The investigation is continuing and more information will likely be released later today according to school officials.
