This litter of puppies is in trouble. Last week there were four babies; yesterday there were only three. A shelter is not a good place for babies to be raised. This family needs out ASAP. Are you interested in fostering?

If you have a place to keep this family at your home, please call the shelter and get set up to foster through one of the local rescue groups. The shelter is open Monday through Friday from 11AM to 5PM. They are also open on Saturday but this litter of pups may not last that long. Please call 870-773-6388, extension 3 to see if you can help. There is a list of rescue at Dog Rescues in Texarkana and How to Contact Them where you will need to find a rescue to foster through before the dogs can be pulled from the shelter. The momma and pups are small to medium sized dogs. The puppies do not appear to be very old. The momma seems so sweet and wags her tail with joy.

Puppies have such a hard time surviving at an animal shelter. The environment at a shelter that has so many other animals coming through is not a healthy place for puppies to survive. Puppies need special care. They are like little sponges and pick up illnesses too easily. This situation is not the fault of the people that tirelessly work at our shelter so please do not start a public bashing mob. Be a part of the solution, not the pollution.

We are coming into the season where many more litters will be showing up at our shelter. I just pulled a litter and mother from the shelter yesterday. There are many more mommas and babies at the shelter waiting to be saved.

It is so unfortunate that there are so many dogs and cats euthanized every week in our local shelter. It is up to the community to prevent it. Spay and neuter your pets. Volunteer to help educate citizens about the need to fix their animals. Share this post on your Facebook page and Tweet about it, too.

The shelter's adoption fees range from $40 to $144, depending on the gender and size of the animal or whether they have been spayed or neutered yet. You can also have your pet microchipped for only $20 right at the shelter. That way if your pet is ever lost, he or she can be returned to you quickly.

If you would like to foster a dog contact the shelter to get information about dog rescues in our area that can help.

The Animal Care and Adoption Center is located at 203 Harrison St., Texarkana, Ark. 71854 and is open Monday through Friday from 11AM and 5PM and Saturdays from 11AM to 2PM.
