"It is what it is," rates at the top of my least favorite saying of all. Close in second place would be "you know." Surprisingly enough though neither of those sayings made the list of this years Pointless Things People Say.

According to a recent study at the University of Arizona, the average person speaks about 16,000 words a day. Obviously not all of those words are worth saying--some are just fillers, crutches, bridges...

Here are five things people say all the time that are completely POINTLESS.

1.  "To be honest".  Which sounds like you're suggesting that everything else out of your mouth is a LIE.

2.  "Needless to say" or "It goes without saying".  In both cases, if you don't NEED to say something, why are you saying it?

3.  "Here's the thing".  Obviously you're talking about SOMETHING.  So it's just filler that doesn't actually mean anything.

4.  "I'm just saying".  People tend to use it when they're insulting someone or being blunt . . . like it somehow excuses it.

5.  "Be that as it may".  Which is unnecessary AND sounds outdated.
