Did you know that butterflies come in many different sizes? Some, like southern California's blue pygmy, have a wingspan of just over half an inch. But others, like New Guinea's Queen Alexandra's birdwing, have a wingspan that reaches up to a foot wide!

But those aren't the only things that differ between types of butterflies. Some also live much longer than others, relatively speaking. While the average lifespan varies between 20 to 40 days, some live only three or four days, while others may live up to six months.
