Do You Know What This Object Is? – Patterson’s Pixels
Do you know what this object is? Take your best guess in today's edition of Patterson's Pixels!
If you guessed that this was a 45 rpm record adaptor, then you were correct! Sometimes called 'spiders,' these adaptors used to be commonly used in the large center hole in the middle of a vinyl record single.
RCA had introduced these single-style adaptors in the 1960s so 45s would be compatible with the thinner spindle on most record players that were built to spin larger 33⅓ rpm LP records.
As a child of the 70s and 80s, I remember watching the old jukebox with fascination as it spun these records around, then dropped it gingerly onto the turntable before blaring out my favorite songs at the local pizza parlor.
Now, with vinyl gaining popularity again, perhaps these spiders will be easier to find than they have been in the past.
