One Direction's status as one of the U.K.'s biggest musical exports at the moment will be cemented with a prime spot at the closing ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics, reports The Daily Star.

The British tabloid reports that the British boy band has been invited to perform "What Makes You Beautiful" at the closing ceremonies of the Games, and they'll be accompanied by a flash mob of a thousand dancers.  Other acts on the bill, according to the Daily Star, are rock legends The Who and George Michael. The performance will be televised worldwide.

A source told the paper, "It’s all top secret and the boys aren’t allowed to talk about it but they are thrilled. It isn’t every day you get the instant exposure of performing in front of a billion people."
