A pair of jail escapees from Missouri are back in custody after being apprehended in Bowie County in Northeast Texas.

Two local residents informed Bowie County Sheriff's Deputy McMillen that they had located two white males standing next to a vehicle that was stuck in the mud along the railroad tracks. When the employees informed these two white males that the sheriff’s office was on the way, they fled the area on foot.

The witnesses took Deputy McMillen to the location where the vehicle was stuck in the mud. There he found a maroon 1998 Toyota Land Cruiser along with two Honda motorcycles. Deputy McMillen ran the vehicle identification number for this vehicle and found that it was stolen out of Springdale, Ark. The two Honda motorcycles that were with the vehicle were also discovered to have been stolen from Springdale at the same time the Toyota Land Cruiser was taken. Inside of the Toyota SUV was an envelope with the name of Keith Davis on it along with Davis’ date of birth.

Deputy McMillen ran Davis for warrants and found that Keith Wayne Davis was wanted for escape out of McDonald County Missouri. Noted on the warrant return for Davis was that he could be in the company of a second escapee from the McDonald County Jail who was named as Mathew Jeffery Miller. With the assistance of officers from the Hooks Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Parks and Wildlife a perimeter was established around the area where the two white males had fled on foot.

The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office helicopter and canines from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Telford Unit were called to assist in the search. A short time after the canines entered the area to search for the fugitives, two white males ran across the road in front of Hooks Police Department Officer Jay Hedges. Officer Hedges gave the two males verbal commands to stop, and they complied.

The two escapees were then taken into custody without incident. Both men were transported to the Bi-State Jail where they await extradition back to Missouri.
