Texarkana, Texas Police have arrested Joseph Whitley Jr., 27, of Texarkana, Ark., and charged him with Aggravated Robbery. Whitley was taken into custody June 26 on State Line Ave., by Texarkana, Ark., Police on a felony warrant held by Texas-side police. Whitley waived extradition to Texas on Wednesday. He was one of two subjects allegedly involved in a purse snatching that occurred in April in the parking lot of Albertson’s grocery store in the 2300 block of Richmond Road in Texarkana.

On April 14, 2015, a 79-year-old woman was returning to her vehicle after leaving the store. As she got to her vehicle, she was allegedly approached by a man who grabbed her purse from her arm. She fell to the ground as he reportedly pulled the purse away from her. The man then ran to a waiting mid-1990s maroon Ford Mustang that was being driven by another subject.

The vehicle was last seen headed toward Mall Drive at a high rate of speed. The victim was treated for minor injuries at Christus St. Michael Healthcare System and released later that day. Two days later, Officer Corey Motley stopped a maroon Ford Mustang on New Boston Road after he recognized it as matching the description of the vehicle involved in the robbery. The driver, Charles Sechrist, 28, of Texarkana Texas, had outstanding warrants and was arrested.

Evidence was found inside the vehicle that tied Sechrist and Whitley to the robbery. Whitley is being currently held in the Bi-State Jail. His bond has been set at $100,000.
