The Louisiana State Police are warning the public about a new phone scam.

The scammer allegedly calls the victim, tells them it’s Louisiana State Police and that their family member has an arrest warrant and is wanted by troopers. To avoid arrest, the victim is instructed to call a number and make payment arrangements.

State troopers said this is a fraud. "We wouldn't ask for money over the phone. We don’t solicit for money. If you receive some kind of phone call like that, it's not going to be true because when you receive a citation from us, you go through the District Attorney's office in that parish. We don’t ask for money.”

Trooper Davis said Troop G has not received any complaints about this scam. He encourages locals to never give unsolicited callers your personal information. If you received one of these fraudulent calls, you should call the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations at (225) 925-1739 or report it online at www.LSP.org and click the “Suspicious Activity” link
