Aside from her contributions to the Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack, Lorde has been relatively quiet in terms of new releases since her breakthrough 2013 debut, Pure Heroine. While we still have “Yellow Flicker Beat” on heavy rotation, we’re anxiously awaiting the New Zealand singer’s sophomore effort -- and now Lorde has shared some insight into the forthcoming album.

In a Tumblr post, Lorde writes that she’s just starting to make headway on her next album after a well-deserved break.

“I took a few months off at the beginning of this year, which was so great,” she writes. “Now I’m just getting into making the next body of work, which is very exciting and scary but so validating.”

While in the studio, Lorde asked her friends and collaborators to cite the one song they “would send into space, to live forever.” When she answered the question herself, she chose Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” -- a key influence for her follow-up LP.

“This song, to me, is perfect,” she explains. “It’s happy and sad, fiery and independent but vulnerable and small, joyous even when a heart is breaking.”

After jamming out to the song in the studio, Lorde says, “I think it was then when I realized I’m going to be in love with music for the rest of my life. It’s going to be the most important friendship I’ll ever have.”

“I think that’s a cool, intense revelation to have, going into your second record,” she continues. “First records are like meeting someone and feeling that need to do everything, just in case for whatever reason, you run out of time, or they stop feeling the same way as you. I feel much calmer, more comfortable in my love of doing this, and its apparent love of me, this time around.”

We can’t wait to hear what an even more calm, cool and collected Lorde sounds like!
