Jimmie Johnson Wins in Martinsville and Leads the Chase Points [VIDEO]
Some call Jimmie Johnson “Mr. Martinsville”, and he proved it Sunday by getting his 7th win at the track. That ties him for wins there with Rusty Wallace, and teammate Jeff Gordon. This victory gives Johnson a two point lead in the chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
With only 5 laps remaining at the final green flag Johnson held off Kyle Busch at the half mile track to win the Tums Fast Relief 500. This is Johnson’s fourth win of the season. He now leads Brad Keselowski by two points in the NASCAR Sprint Cup points chase.
Up next in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series it is the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway in Ft. Worth. Race coverage will begin at 1 p.m. central, on ESPN. Tony Stewart was the winner of this race in 2011. Going into Texas, it is important to mention that is a track that Johnson usually performs well at, and Keselowski has never finished on the lead-lap at Texas. (In the last 11 Sprint Cup races at TMS, there have been nine different winners.)
