With overwhelming support from the community, the scholarship fund named for fallen Texarkana Texas Police Officer William Jason Sprague has reached "endowed" status.

Named for William Jason Sprague, the scholarship fund stands at $27,350. Officer Sprague was killed in the line of duty in June of 2013.

Wikipedia defines a scholarship endowment as...

An endowed scholarship is tuition (and possibly other cost) assistance that is permanently paid for with the revenue of an endowment fund specifically set up for that purpose. It can be either merit-based or need-based (which is only awarded to those students for whom the college expense would cause their family financial hardship) depending on university policy or donor preferences. Some universities will facilitate donors' meeting the students they are helping. The amount that must be donated to start an endowed scholarship can vary greatly."

In a press release from Texarkana College, Stephanie Sprague, widow of the fallen officer told Texarkana College,

This scholarship, established in memory of Jason and his sacrifice, will help students enter the field of criminal justice and earn higher education credentials to advance in their careers. We are overwhelmed and grateful for the contributions made toward the advancement of this scholarship fund.”

The school will manage the fund, and award scholarships from the interest. In the press release, Stepanie Sprague also wants to remind the community that National Tell a Police Officer Thank You Day is September 20, 2014 and that the people will rally in support of all of the officers that sacrifice their safety to ensure our safety everyday.
