Commissioners have named Denise Thornburg to replace Natalie Nichols on an
interim basis as County Clerk. Nichols resigned December 31st in a
dispute with the Commissioners Court. Thornburg who previously worked in the
clerk’s office will oversee the department this year and an election will be
held to pick a new clerk later this year.
The body of a Hempstead Arkansas jail inmate has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy to determine how he died. 57 year old Roy Foster had just taken a shower and was getting dressed when he collapsed in the jail earlier this week. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The sheriff’s office says Foster had been in custody since mid December on a failure to appear warrant in connection with a rape case.
Texas Governor Rick Perry’s Presidential Campaign may be about over. Perry returned to Texas today to re-assess his candidacy after a disappointing 5th place finish in last nights Iowa Caucus. The Texas Governor garnered 10% of the votes cast. Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum led the field with 25% of the vote each. Perry will decide in the next few days whether to end his presidential bid or continue to the South Carolina Primary which will be held on January 21st.
