Update:

Mack Maine says Lil Wayne isn't going anywhere. The plot thickens.

Original Story:

In December of 2014, Lil Wayne took to Twitter to tell the world that he wanted off the label that brought him up – Cash Money Records. "To all my fans, I want u to know that my album won't and hasn't been released bekuz Baby & Cash Money Rec. refuse to release it," he wrote. "I want off this label and nothing to do with these people but unfortunately it ain't that easy."

Since then he's sued Birdman and the label for over $50 million and said "Fuck Cash Money" numerous times. But while the battle seemed to be still ongoing, late last night (Sep. 2) Wayne told fans on Twitter he was giving up.

"I AM NOW DEFENSELESS AND mentally DEFEATED & I leave gracefully and thankful I luh my fanz but I'm dun," he wrote. "Ain't lookin for sympathy, just serenity."

The sentiment comes as a shock to fans, who know Weezy to be one of the hardest working and most prolific MCs hip-hop has ever seen. Most believed he'd have the strength to persevere, and when he dropped his Free Weezy Album on TIDAL last year, it was a sign that he was finding ways to overcome the obstacles Birdman had put in his path. Now it seems Wayne is at his wits' end.

One fan reached out to Rick Ross on Twitter about the situation, asking if he could buy Wayne's contract out and bring him to MMG. The Bawse responded succinctly: "get Birdman on the phone."

But perhaps there's hope. At Lil Weezyana Fest this past weekend, Wayne was selling official merch, and one shirt had a list of all the projects he's dropped throughout the career. At the very bottom, it read Dedication 6, a mixtape Drama said they were working on.
