It’s no secret that Hollywood has an ageism issue. While most actresses over 45 are doomed to playing mothers, grandmothers, or not getting any work at all, male actors’ careers are easily extended into their more distinguished decades. The last time Tom Cruise had a female co-star close to his age was Miranda Otto in 2005’s War of the Worlds. Which is why it’s so refreshing these days to see actresses past their thirties get a younger love interest. Or, is it? The Home Again trailer is here to test that theory.

In this heartwarming family comedy, Reese Witherspoon plays a recently-divorced mother of two who is prone to getting a little crazy on her birthdays. When her fortieth rolls around, she goes out drinking with some girlfriends, meets a group of young lads out on the town, takes one home, and the usual things happen. (I dunno, do they? I have no perspective on life outside movies.)

I can’t be the only person who felt a little weird watching this trailer, but I can’t put my finger on exactly why. Do I like this? Should I like this? Am I problematic if I don’t like this? It’s a moral conundrum wrapped up in a swirling melange of tasteful granite countertops, striped linen shirts, and softly neutral curtains. Oh, you bet Nancy Meyers produced this.

Anyway, here’s the official synopsis:

HOME AGAIN stars Reese Witherspoon ("Big Little Lies," Wild, Walk The Line, Sweet Home Alabama) as Alice Kinney in a modern romantic comedy. Recently separated from her husband, (Michael Sheen), Alice decides to start over by moving back to her hometown of Los Angeles with her two young daughters. During a night out on her 40th birthday, Alice meets three aspiring filmmakers who happen to be in need of a place to live. Alice agrees to let the guys stay in her guest house temporarily, but the arrangement ends up unfolding in unexpected ways. Alice’s unlikely new family and new romance comes to a crashing halt when her ex-husband shows up, suitcase in hand. HOME AGAIN is a story of love, friendship, and the families we create. And one very big life lesson: Starting over is not for beginners.

Home Again also stars Lake Bell, Nat Wolff, Jon Rudnitsky, and Pico Alexander, and hits theaters September 8.
