The National Weather Service has issued a “Hard Freeze Warning” in effect for the area tonight and early Thursday morning.

Temperatures are expected to fall into the low to mid-teens across the Texarkana area. The sub-freezing temperatures should begin shortly after sunset tonight and will struggle to get above freezing throughout the day tomorrow.

Be sure and remember the 4 P's, people, pets, pipes, and plants. The Liberty-Eylau Volunteer Fire Department has some safety tips as we look for various ways to stay warm during this extreme cold snap.

As the temperatures start to drop be sure to keep items away from electric heaters and gas space heaters. Don't use extension cords on electric heaters, make sure the cord is not hot to the touch when unit has ran for a while.

Check your Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms. The fireplace flue should be inspected for soot buildup.

Keep a safe clearance in front of the fireplace away from combustible items. Have a portable fire extinguisher in your home.

Bundle up. There will also be a chance for wintry precipitation across the area over the upcoming weekend. Stay Tuned!
