Texarkana, Texas Police detectives have charged Harry Steven Jones, 20, Genoa, Ark., for the theft from an elderly woman on Tamar Drive that occurred on July 2, 2015.

Jones was arrested yesterday, August 6, 2015, by Bowie County deputies for Exploitation of the Elderly. Texarkana police detectives interviewed Jones and he reportedly admitted to his role in the theft and using the ruse of a fire to gain entry into the woman's home.

Jones told the detective that he chose the woman as victim after doing repair work on her driveway a few weeks earlier.

On July 2, 2015, an elderly woman reported that a young man came to her Tamar Drive home excitedly banging on the door. When the woman opened the door the man told her that her house was on fire and rushed into the home to "help her gather her belongings." The man went through the home, allegedly "searching for the fire," and eventually left, with the woman's wallet and some of her jewelry saying that he was going to find the fire trucks.

Jones has been charged with Theft of Property $1,500 to less than $20,000 and his bond has been set at $50,000 on that charge. Jones also faces multiple charges from the Bowie County Sheriff's Office.
