Gangs Once Again a Problem in Texarkana

The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department recently reinstituted the gang suppression unit to curtail gang activity in the city.Authorities, who clamped down on such activity back in the 1990's said the problem had recently resurfaced in our area. Now the suppression unit is reporting some arrests in connection with their work. Thirteen people, seven juveniles and six adults have been arrested and charged with various crimes including Terroristic Acts and Battery 1st Degree.

An addtional six arrests are expected in the very near future including three adults and three juveniles. The Gang Suppression Unit has indentifed over 70 members of criminal street gangs in the Texarkana area. The T.A.P.D. cooperated with the Texarkana, Texas Police Department during the ramped up investigation. Two Texas Side officers were assigned to the unit during the past few months.
