Game of Thrones has always shot midway through the year, to the point that Comic-Con appearances only ever offered new cast or bonus material from the stars, but with Season 7 pushed later into 2017, this year’s attendees got a special treat. Preview the making of Game of Thrones Season 7 in a first official teaser!

As released at the Comic-Con 2016 panel, HBO offered a brief look at Game of Thrones Season 7, in the form of a production teaser. It’s difficult to say if we’re seeing prep for Season 6 or 7 (between eye-rocks for deceased characters, reminders of Unella’s Mountain-ous end and more), but the footage at least ends with a Season 7 script, and a voice saying “Welcome home, my queen.”

Meanwhile, said showrunner David Benioff of the decision to delay Season 7:

Winter is here, and we’ve got to shoot in places with trees and wait for the leaves to turn. We finish shooting in February.

And hey, free blooper reel!

Elsewhere of Game of Thrones Season 7, we know that filming will begin later this year for a summer 2017 premiere, and reduced to seven episodes at that. A list of directors for the year has also been announced, while at least a portion of filming will take place in Iceland in early 2017.

We’ll learn more in the coming weeks and months, but what other Game of Thrones surprises can we expect of Season 7?
