Get your child's car seat checked on Friday, August 26, for free during the event sponsored by the Texarkana, Texas Fire Department, the Texas Department of Transportation and the Northeast Texas Traffic Safety Coalition.

The check up will be from 10AM to 2PM at the Texarkana, Texas Fire Station #4 located at 4315 Summerhill Road in Texarkana.

"Three out of four children are not buckled in correctly when traveling," said Irene Webster, TxDOT Traffic Safety Specialist. "Parents and caregivers can have their child safety seats checked to make sure they meet current safety standards, that they are installed correctly and find out what type of safety seats are required for different ages and sizes of children," she said.

"On-site certified technicians will educate caregivers about proper car seat installation. No appointment is needed. If necessary, replacement car seats will be provided to participants with substandard safety seats for qualifying Texas residents. Participants should be sure to bring proof of residency (such as a utility bill) and proof of government assistance (WIC or Medicare card)."
