We southerners eat foods that people from the north, west and east just wouldn't understand. When I moved to Arkansas from the West Coast, it took a little time to adjust to the cuisine. Now I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Grits, fried chicken gizzards, chicken fried steak, fried catfish, boiled crawfish, cornbread dressing and barbecue are just a few of the southern dishes that out of town folks just don't understand. What others can you think of?

Grits with eggs and bacon are a favorite of mine. Have you ever tried grits and shrimp?

Fried chicken gizzards are surprisingly yummy. Boiled crawfish has become my absolute favorite food when it is in season.

Barbecue seems like an all around meal but when I moved to Idaho, I couldn't find a good BBQ sandwich anywhere. There certainly weren't any barbecue restaurants like we have here in Texarkana.

Fried catfish and chips is a staple dinner in the south but elsewhere in the U.S. you may only be able to find grilled or baked fish.

Chicken fried steak is another food that you won't find in a northern restaurant. Ask for it and watch the head tilt.

What other foods would you add to this list?
