Health officials say flu season has kicked off early across the country particularly across the south and southeast parts of the country. The statistics show the most active beginning to the flu season in the last decade. Texas is one of five states that have already reported high levels of flu activity already this season. Other states reporting problems with influenza include Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee.

Last year the flu got off to a slow start, as compared to the early development this year. Health officials are urging people to get their flu shots now. Babies over six months old and all children and adults should be vaccinated according to health officials. Every year around a quarter of the entire U.S. population gets the flu and an average of 36,000 thousand people die from complications.

There are several strains of the flu going around, but officials say the vaccines manufactured this year seem to be a good match. Experts say the key to avoid the misery is to get the shot
