Boy George’s 1980s pop band Culture Club hasn’t released any new music since 1999, but that’s about the change. The Sun reports Boy George met with former Culture Club guitarist Roy Hay last week in Los Angeles and the two discussed plans to begin work on a new album in January.

The Sun quotes Boy George as saying, “It will be a new record, completely new. There’s no point just doing it for nostalgia.”

“We’re certainly going to do it,” the singer declared.

Boy George, whose birth name is George O’Dowd, added, “There’s some interesting ideas about who we want to work with. It’s got to be really good.”

The newspaper reports the album will be released sometime in 2014.

In addition to Boy George and Roy Hay, Culture Club included bassist Mikey Craig and drummer Jon Moss.

The group’s hits include “Karma Chameleon” and “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me.
