There is a fishing derby, a dog adoption, a rummage/bake sale and a semi-pro football game going on this weekend in Texarkana. It is also time to get your kiddos registered for the Spring Break Escape.

The Texarkana, Texas Parks and Recreation Department is currently registering youngsters for its 2012 Spring Break Escape which will be held March 14 to March 18 from 9:00AM to 3:00PM at the Southwest Center, 3222 West 7th Street in Texarkana, Texas. Registration at the Southwest Center is open now through March 2 or until all slots are filled. Only 60 spaces are available for youngsters ages 6-14. The fee for the entire week of Spring Break is $30.00. A variety of fun activities will be provided including games, movies, ping pong, basketball, and arts and crafts. Lunch will be provided daily. If you have room in your heart and your home for one more person, the Educational Merit Foundation High School Exchange Program is seeking volunteer families to host high school students from France, Germany or Norway for five or ten months starting this August. Thursday, February 23:

20th annual Fishing Derby on Thursday, February 23 and Friday, February 24 at Spring Lake Park. Activities on Thursday are from 9AM until Noon and activities on Friday will begin at 8AM and conclude at approximately 1PM. For more information, contact the Parks Department at 903-798-3978.

Saturday, February 25:

Rummage Sale, Bake Sale and Lunch Fundraiser on Saturday, February 25 from 8AM to 4PM at The Masonic Lodge in Wake Village, 411 Redwater Rd, Texarkana, Texas. This fundraiser is for Tina Hignight who has liver cancer and is awaiting a transplant. Donations will be accepted Thursday and Friday 10AM to 5PM. (no adult clothing please). Baked goods can be dropped off on Friday or Saturday. Lunch for there or to go will be a spaghetti plate that will also include garlic toast, salad, dessert and drink for $6.50. Dog Adoption. The PoodlePatch and Texarkana Humane Society will be at PetSmart on Saturday, February 25 from 10AM to 3PM. All of the pets are in private foster homes. Most are house-trained. All of the dogs have been to the vet and are vaccinated and fixed. There will be poodles, a yorkie, a cocker spaniel and a Great Dane just mention a few.

The Texarkana Warriors semi-pro football team will begin its season this Saturday, February 25 at home against the Stars. The game will be played at the New Boston Lions Stadium with a 7PM Kickoff. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales and concessions will go to fight childhood cancer.

Thursday, March 8:

The Redwater VFD will be hosting its Annual Spring Hamburger Supper during the Redwater ISD Open House night on March 8 at the Elementary School from 5PM until Open House is over and everyone has been served. The time for the actual Open House will be 5:30PM-7:00PM at the Elementary and 6PM-7:30PM at the Middle School. A meal will consist of a hamburger/cheeseburger, chips, dessert, & a drink for $5.50 per meal. For more information please visit www.redwatervfd.org.

Beads, Bags, and the Blue Yonder fundraiser being held on March 8 from 5:30PM until 8:30PM at the Hope Airport in the Historic 1940 Hope Hangar. The event will feature the Stardust Big Band, a style and fashion show, a silent auction, and sales. This fundraising event will benefit the UACCH Kids’ College Program held each summer at the College. Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased at the UACCH Advancement office. Saturday, March 31:

Domestic violence prevention will host their 14th Annual Antique/Classic Car & Motorcycle on March 31 from 10AM to 3PM at the Texas High School parking lot. Activities the day of the show includes children activities, silent and live auctions, live local entertainment, as well as raffles throughout the day. Trophies will be given out to the winners of each division at 3PM. There is still time to sign up to be a vendor or to register your car or motorcycle!!! Highland Hills Baptist Church is hosting a Community Wide Garage Sale on Saturday, April 7 from 9AM till 1PM. Space rentals are available for $10. Scout-O-Rama 2012 at Spring Lake Park is Friday-Sunday, April 13-15. This family event will feature Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturing Scouts from around the ARK-LA-TEX taking part in celebrating the scouting adventure. Annual Redwater Volunteer Fire Department Bass Tournament is Saturday, April 14 at Wright Patman Lake in Sportsman’s Cove.
