Eminem — the best-selling rapper of all-time — earned himself another RIAA certification with the release of his seventh-studio album, ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2.’ The album exceeded commercial expectations as well.

‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2′ was expected to sell around 750,000 copies, but ended up tallying 792,000. Not only is this good for his seventh straight No. 1 album, it’s also the second-biggest selling debut week of the year. Eminem is only bested by Justin Timberlake‘s ‘The 20/20 Experience,’ which sold 968,000 in March. Timberlake’s follow-up LP of also went platinum after selling 350,000 in the U.S. in its debut week.

Before ‘TMMLP2,’ the second-highest selling debut week of the year was Drake‘s ‘Nothing Was the Same,’ which sold 658,000.

Eminem’s new project earns him his biggest-selling debut week since the comeback he made from his five-year hiatus. ‘Relapse’ sold 608,000 units its first week, while ‘Recovery’ sold 741,000 copies.

‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2′ will likely go platinum, marking yet another achievement for a rapper who’s had nothing but gold releases in his career. That is, unless you’re counting ‘Infinite,’ his 1996 independently released effort.
