Long-time Emergency Management Coordinator, and our friend Dave Hall has passed away, he was 69-years-old. (Though when asked, he was always 59, again.)

Dave Hall spent most of his life serving the community. He was with Emergency Management for more than 30 years, and before that, he was one of the first people to give me an opportunity to work in radio. Dave spent many years at local AM station KTFS with many different titles ranging from news director, to program director, to operations manager. Dave was influential to dozens of people that chose broadcasting as a career, whether with news and sports, or different music formats. The radio community has been buzzing with memories of Dave Hall, and his contributions to the early days of radio here.

Dave told me many years ago,

We don't play the hits, we make the hits."

For some reason, I always thought that was cool, and it has stayed with me for years.

He loved baseball, and spent a lot of time coaching Dixie Youth teams, and he never got tired of the oldies. Dave knew all the hits, and whats more, he could tell you more trivia on classic hits than anyone I ever met.  Who wrote it, when it was recorded, what type microphone they used, etc...

I know as a neighbor of Dave's for the last dozen years, he received great enjoyment from putting up his Christmas light display, and every year it got bigger and better... (just the other day we talked about how his lights make me feel bad about my little inflatable snowman.)

Dave was a good neighbor, and a great man that will be missed by many.

A Memorial Service for Dave Hall will be this Saturday, 10 a.m. at the Rader Dome in Liberty-Eylau. Visitation is Sunday, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at East Funeral Home, Moores Lane. Services for Dave will be Monday, December 17, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church on Moores Lane. If you can make it to at least one of these it would be really nice for the family, they are good people, and would appreciate you being there.

Dave has been involved in Emergency Management and protecting the community since the 60's, back when it was called "Civil Defense".

Recently Dave was working on photos for a file chronicling the departments history from the earliest days of Emergency Management in Texarkana, and Dave's long-time friend, and colleague Deputy Coordinator Kathy Reynolds sent a few of the photos to me by email...
