Dillard's in Texarkana hopes to help women who are victims of domestic violence by providing them with items they may have left home without -- watches, handbags and jewelry. Beverly Gray, area sales manager for Dillards in the Handbags, Watches and Accessories Department at Central Mall, said this is an event that the store has been participating in every spring and fall. Here's how it works. Shoppers donate their gently-used purses, jewelry and accessories to Dillards -- who then donate the items to the Domestic Violence Prevention Center. Then, shoppers receive a deep discount when they purchase new items at Dillard's.

It's really a win-win for all involved.

"Dillard's donates the clean, gently used handbags and working watches, etc., to a local charity of our choice.  We choose Domestic Violence Prevention for a variety of reasons. We are impressed by the work that they do locally for battered women. Obviously, our donations stay in the community to help these women. Their situations are very unfortunate and we want to help any way we can," Gray said.

For each handbag a customer donates she can get anywhere from $15-50 off the purchase of a new, regular priced handbag. For each watch donated, a customer also gets the same deal.

"For example, if the watch or handbag is priced over $200 they get a $50 savings," Gray explained. "If the handbag or watch is priced $150-$199 they save $40 and so on."

The Dillard's trade-in event takes place March 18-22 at Central Mall. Call (903) 838-6591 for additional details.
