Here is a story too incredible not to be true. Christian Bale was recently walking the red carpet in support of his new film Vice, the biopic from The Big Short’s Adam McKay about Vice President Dick Cheney. Red carpets are typically not the best place for political discourse, but in this case it worked. So Variety asked Bale, who do you think should play Donald Trump in the inevitable biopic about him. Bale didn’t have an answer — but he did have a story about meeting Donald Trump. And it is amazing. Because according to Bale, Trump appeared to believe he was really Bruce Wayne.

You can watch Bale tell the story himself at Variety.com, but here are the main details...

We were filming on Batman in Trump Tower and he said, ‘Come on up to the office.’ I think he thought I was Bruce Wayne, because I was dressed as Bruce Wayne. So he talked to me like I was Bruce Wayne and I just went along with it, really. It was quite entertaining.

Vice opens in theaters on Christmas Day. After that, who knows? Maybe the next time President Trump meets former Vice President Cheney at a Washington D.C. function, he’ll think he’s really talking to Christian Bale.
