Are you missing a dog? If you are it is always a good idea to check the animal shelter in Texarkana daily to make sure your missing animal hasn't been picked up by animal control or taken to the shelter by a citizen. Here are some of the dogs that were at the shelter in the stray hold areas as of Monday, May 16, 2016:

Please help get these dogs in front of people that may be able to rescue or adopt. Simply share the videos on your Facebook and Twitter pages.

This dog was an owner surrender. Super neat dog at the animal shelter. Still waiting for his owner to return. Every time the door opened, Deuce thought they were coming back for him. The drool is a sign of stress. It happens to a lot of the dogs when they are dropped off or brought in by animal control. Deuce is noted to be neutered, house trained, good with children and 2 years, 6 months old. He seems to be a great dog but the shelter is probably not going to work out so well for him since he is a talker, with a low growl sounding noise when he sees or hears something he doesn't like.

This next one is listed as an owner surrender but it didn't look like that person had her for very long at all so maybe she is someone's missing dog.

Looking for a puppy, there are plenty at the animal shelter in Texarkana.

The animal shelter in Texarkana, Ark., often faces issues of having enough space for all of the animals coming in. In recent weeks, the shelter was full and had to put animals to sleep to make room for all of the new owner surrenders and strays coming in daily. It is not fair to the dogs so we must get their faces out so people can hopefully adopt these babies before it is too late.

Some of these dogs are waiting for their owners to find them. Others do not have a chance of anyone coming for them. There are not nearly enough adoptions occurring daily to make room on the adoption floor for all of the dogs that are available to be moved up. What options do they have? If you see a dog that you would like to foster, find a rescue group to pull the dog. Check here for a list of the rescues. Other options for helping these dogs is to share this video on your social media pages so others will see them.

If you sponsor a dog that means that you will pay the fee to have the dog fixed and get a rabies vaccination. Once that is done, the adoption fee will only be $40, which makes it much easier to get a dog adopted from the shelter. The Animal Care and Adoption Center in Texarkana, Ark., is our only animal shelter in town. They have a few hundred dogs and cats that need to be reclaimed or adopted. Room is always an issue at a city animal shelter. We feature an animal each week to help get the word out about many of these great pets.

Many dogs and cats are euthanized every week in our local shelter. It is up to the community to prevent it. Spay and neuter your pets. Volunteer to help educate citizens about the need to fix their animals. Share this post on your Facebook page and Tweet about it, too.

The shelter's adoption fees range from $40 to $144, depending on the gender and size of the animal or whether they have been spayed or neutered yet. You can also have your pet microchipped for only $20 right at the shelter. That way if your pet is ever lost, he or she can be returned to you quickly.

If you would like to foster a dog contact the shelter to get information about dog rescues in our area that can help.

The Animal Care and Adoption Center is located at 203 Harrison St., Texarkana, Ark. 71854 and is open Monday through Friday from 11AM and 5PM and Saturdays from 11AM to 2PM. Also, visit the shelter's Facebook page.
