Mardi Gras is my favorite time of the year! I went to Mardi Gras in New Orleans a few years ago. Twice actually. It was a lot of fun. One trip was what I call the "Parade Route" because the entire 4 days was spent going to parade after parade. The next trip to New Orleans was all about seeing the downtown festivities and oh what an experience that was. Now Texarkana has its own Mardi Gras celebration. This year it will be held on Saturday, March 1 in Downtown Texarkana.
Texarkana's second annual Mardi Gras celebration is less than a month away. Three parades and lots of food, fun and entertainment are scheduled for Saturday, March 1, 2014.
Last year's event was a huge success. Lots of people, parades, beads and fun for all. This year looks to be an even bigger event with even more chances to catch beads during the parades because the throw zone has been extended to include the entire parade route.
As I was going through my many photos that I have saved on my computer I thought to myself, "these pics will never see the light of day." So here they are! I am sharing some of my favorite pics that I have ran across this week. These are photos that I have taken.
I love taking pics of the moon. June 2013 was a great time to catch a big, full moon. There are many different names for full moons. One of my favorite websites has the low-down on the full moon phases and names.
One of the things I don't like about a garden is having to stand around and water. It is a necessity but it is also wasted time. I started a project that was going to be a simple, easy to do and not expensive solution to the watering issue. Of course, it didn't go as planned.
We are planting a HUGE veggie garden this year. We have planted seeds and plants for watermelons, tomatoes, carrots, radishes, cantaloupes, corn, okra, peppers, cucumbers, squash, beans, peas and so much more.
Congratulations to all of the winners! The annual event to honor the winners of the Wilbur Smith Award and the Idalee Hawkins Award was recently held. The honorees are all very deserving for all that the do in our community.
The achievements of each recipient is below their photos--I bet you know some of these folks.
A big storm rolled through the Arklatex this afternoon. I believe it formed in the skies above my community. A tornado warning was issued, after the fact for my area. I guess all storms have to start some where.
I love Mardi Gras season. In the past it signified the beginning of crawfish season but I have since discovered that I can get crawfish as early as November if I am willing to travel south. I went to Mardi Gras in New Orleans a few years ago. Twice actually. It was a lot of fun. One trip was what I call the "Parade Route" because the entire 4 days was spent going to parade after parade.
