Barry, a canine with the Bowie County Sheriff's Office, helped make an arrest Thursday after a car's driver allegedly refused to let authorities search her vehicle for drugs.

On June 4, 2015 at about 1:16 a.m. Sgt. Chris Allison with the Bowie County Sheriff's Office noticed a red sports utility vehicle parked at a closed business in the 8400 block of U.S. Highway 59. As he pulled into the business, he next spotted a white car parked next to the woods surrounding the business. Sgt. Allison discovered the vehicle was unoccupied.

But as he moved on to the second vehicle he found a woman inside of it, who was identified as Brady Marie Jordan, 40, of Texarkana, Texas. Jordan reportedly told Sgt. Allison she had dropped a friend off in the Liberty-Eylau area, but she could not provide the sergeant with her friend’s name or the address where she dropped her off. Jordan next allegedly admitted to a having a history of using illegal drugs as well as having recently using them.

When asked, Jordan allegedly refused consent to search her vehicle.

Sgt. Allison then removed his canine partner, Barry, from his vehicle. Barry conducted a free-air sniff around Jordan’s vehicle. Barry gave a positive response to finding the odor of illegal drugs at the front of the vehicle.

Each canine reacts differently when giving a positive response to smelling illegal drugs. "Barry sits down for his response," explained Chief Deputy Jeff Neal.

A subsequent search of Jordan's vehicle by Sgt. Allison produced two bags of marijuana, some prescription pills and seven bags of methamphetamine.

Jordan was arrested for "Possession of a Controlled Substance Over Four Grams and Under 200 Grams," "Possession of a Controlled Substance Under 28 Grams" and "Possession of a Marijuana Under Two Ounces." She was taken to the Bi-State Jail where Judge Nancy Talley later set her bonds at $30,000 for Possession of a Controlled Substance Over Four Grams and Under 200 Grams, $5,000 for Possession of a Controlled Substance Under 28 Grams and $5,000 Possession of a Marijuana Under Two Ounces.
