The Flash Season 2 finale made a deliberate point of transforming Zoom into the exact image of demonic DC speedster “Black Flash,” and with good reason, it seems. Not only will the ghoulish figure return, he might even crop up on series outside The Flash.

Assuming you’re up to speed on The Flash Season 3, Entertainment Weekly writes that executive producer Andrew Kreisberg confirmed the return at Sunday’s TCA press tour panel. It isn’t likely that current 24: Legacy star Teddy Sears will be made up as Black Flash, but rather the speed force Grim Reaper of sorts will be popping up in several spots:

He will [be] the classic comic book Grim Reaper aspect. It’s just going to be on multiple shows. He’s a classic character and we have storylines on multiple shows that fit having him return. There’s something so scary about him, even scarier than when he was just a man because now he is the Grim Reaper, he is like the Devil. How do you stop the Devil? It presents an interesting challenge for the heroes of the respective shows in which he appears.

Certainly, Black Flash could provide a solution to Barry’s current woes with Savitar (if he maintains his Hunter Zolomon memories, he may not be so inclined to help), though it’s worth noting that Legends of Tomorrow is also dealing with a speedster of its own, that of Matt Letscher’s Reverse-Flash. Arrow and Supergirl are possibilities as well, but when’s the last time either had need of a speedster?

We’ll find out in the coming months, but will Black Flash prove so unsettling as in his first appearance? Stay tuned for the latest.
