For six decades, Big Tex has welcomed folks to the State Fair of Texas at Dallas' Fair Park. Today, however, the legend welcomed his last guests as he burned to the ground after an apparent electrical fire that started in his neck, according to Sue Gooding, a spokesperson for the fair.

The iconic 52-foot talking cowboy celebrated his 60th anniversary this year during the 'Big & Bright' State Fair of Texas. Now only his "hands, Dickies belt buckle  and skeletal structure" remain, according to USA Today.

The fair, which closes this Sunday, will never be the same. I remember walking past Big Tex many times during the years I lived in Dallas, and he always represented a guarantee of fun things to come.

Will fair officials decide to rebuild him? It is still too soon to know. But seeing his charred remains towering over the park is a shocking way to bid farewell to an old friend.
