In 2009, Adele won two Grammy Awards, Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Her first album debuted at number one, and has been certified four times platinum in the UK.

Someone Like You, co-written by Adele, is a piano ballad and the lyrics are about coming to terms with a broken relationship which I believe was written about her recent breakup with the person she has described as her soul mate. The song went platinum in the UK.

She finally got noticed in the US when she was on a Saturday Night Live episode that was a viewer record-breaker in 2008 because US vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin was appearing. Adele performed 'Chasing Pavements' and 'Cold Shoulder.'

The following day, her album '19' topped the iTunes charts and ranked at number five at Amazon.com.

Her second album '21' came out this year and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 selling 352,000 copies in its first week. The Official Charts Company (compiles various "official" UK record charts) announced that Adele is the first living artist to achieve the feat of two top five hits in both the Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously since The Beatles in 1964.

If you want to catch a performance she will at Stubbs Waller Creek on Sunday, June 12 in Austin, Texas before she heads back to tour the UK.

Recently Adele told Out magazine that she would have traded her career, friendships and hobbies for her soul mate and wished she had made it work.
