Some Arkansas High students know there math skills and are not afraid to show it.

Arkansas High School won five of the 18 awards at the recent Arkansas Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ACTM) Regional Mathematics Contest at Southern Arkansas University.
More than 130 regional high school students competed in six mathematics categories at SAU on Saturday, March 7, 2015. Awards were given for the top three scores in each category.
Annually, SAU hosts this regional tournament to recognize high school students with exceptional mathematics skills.  This event serves as a great opportunity to highlight the academic achievements for our region’s young mathematicians. Faculty from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science proctored and graded the competitors’ exams. Faculty participation included Dr. Deborah Kincaid (ACTM Regional Director), Dr. Hasan Shehada, Dr. John Hutchens, Dr. Hong Cheng, Beth McDowell and Katie Moe.
Trophies were presented to first, second and third place students from the various mathematics disciplines, including Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry/Pre-calculus, Calculus and Probability and Statistics.
Students placing first, second or third, along with others from a statewide pool of high scores, will be invited to participate in the state contest. It is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2015, on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.

1st place Algebra II– Ana Jusino
3rd place – Algebra II – Mary Cook
2nd place Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry – Austin Edwards
2nd place Calculus – Cameron Ytzen
2nd place Statistics– Armonte’ Goldsmith
