The Krewe of Centaur, one of the largest parading Mardi Gras krewes in Louisiana, will host their annual parade on Saturday, February 3 in Shreveport.

According to the Shreveport-Bossier Convention & Tourist Bureau, The Krewe of Centaur Parade XXVII will begin at 4:30 p.m. in downtown Shreveport. The parade will begin at the intersection of Lake Street and Clyde Fant Parkway and will proceed along the parade route via Clyde Fant Parkway, Shreveport-Barksdale Highway and East Kings Highway. This year’s parade will feature country music star Trace Adkins as grand marshal and the massive Louisiana Tech Band of Pride leading the parade procession. Crowds totaling an estimated 285,000 spectators are anticipated to view the parade along its 5 ½ mile-long route. The theme of the Krewe of Centaur Parade XXVII is “A Night at the Library”.

The Krewe of Centaur Parade is the largest Mardi Gras parade in Louisiana outside of the New Orleans area. The parade typically includes 40 floats, 15 or more specialty units and more than 700 krewe members throwing 2 million beads, cups, stuffed animals, and more. The public is invited to the view the floats being loaded for the parade at the Krewe of Centaur’s annual Float-Loading Party, 5:30-9 p.m., Friday, Feb. 2 at 351 Aero Drive in Shreveport. Admission is free.

The Krewe of Centaur Parade XXVII shares a weekend with the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux Pet Parade, an event that features hundreds of pets dressed in festive Mardi Gras attire. The 2018 Krewe of Barkus and Meoux Pet Parade will be held, 12-4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 4 at 2000 Reeves Marine Drive in Bossier City. More than 10,000 spectators are expected to turn out to see the parade. Parade day events begin at 12 p.m. and the parade typically marches at 3 p.m.
