Andy Griffith passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, and was buried in less than five hours.

According to CNN, Andy Griffith was buried at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, less than five hours after he died at his home on Roanoke Island, which is off the coast of North Carolina.

"It had been planned for some time," said the spokesperson, who declined to reveal where on the island the body was buried.  "This was the wish of his family."

"It's not very common," said Larry F. Stegall, executive director of the state's Funeral Directors Association. "I don't recall having heard of it, and I've been here 32 years."

"Goober Pyle" actor George Lindsey of the Andy Griffith Show died in May 6, 2012, at the age of 83. His funeral was five days later. Surely there were people that would have attended Andy Griffith's funeral service had they been given time to make arrangements. Funerals bring closure and take the grieving process to a different level so maybe that is why his family felt it was best to go forward with burial so soon. They also avoided the onslaught of media coverage.
