The Program for Learning and Community Engagement will feature Dr. James Presley with “Superfund Drama in Texarkana: The Battle of Carver Terrace”.

The event will be this Thursday, Oct. 6, at 2PM in University Center 210 on the A&M-Texarkana campus. The event is free and open to the public.

“Dr. Presley’s presentation integrates a prior PLACE theme of Environmental Issues and this year’s theme of Race and Ethnicity,” says Dr. Tom Wagy, Professor of History and PLACE Committee member.

Dr. Presley will base his lecture largely on first-hand, eye-witness experiences, and focus on the interplay of race, politics and environment at the local level.

Dr. Presley is a native of Nash, Texas, a graduate of Redwater High School and the author of nine nonfiction books, numerous articles, short fiction and poetry. He received his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin.

PLACE is a faculty-led program designed to create a community of learners comprising A&M-Texarkana students, faculty, staff and the community at large. PLACE chooses an annual theme around which to organize a lecture series and other activities that provide focal points for learning and discussion.
