Apollo is approximately 9 months old. His mom was believed to be a Boxer. This sweet young pup came to the pound in March. He was much smaller back then and yet he has somehow managed to go undetected by possible adopters for so many months.

Apollo has also managed to remain untouched by any common pound sicknesses. This guy is a beautiful dog and a quick learner on the leash and with commands. Poor Apollo has not grown up knowing how to play with balls or chew toys - though he is quickly learning. Yet, growing up in the pound has given this guy fantastic social skills with other dogs and people. He hardly barks and it has been said time and again that Apollo would make a great family pooch.

Apollo is one of the King's Hwy litter. He and his sister Leaf are the only two left of the litter still at the shelter. Apollo was just recently separated from his sister because males and females cannot be together unless they are fixed. Leaf is now spayed and she is ready for a new home.

You can sponsor Apollo to make him more adoptable! If you sponsor Apollo, he will be fulled vetted so when a family wants to adopt him, there will not be a waiting period and the expense of adopting for the new family will be cut significantly. Visit the shelter's NEW website to learn more about sponsoring Apollo.

The shelter's dog adoption fees range from $40 to $144, depending on the gender and size of the animal or whether they have been spayed or neutered yet.

It is so unfortunate that there are thousands of dogs that are euthanized every year in our local shelter when there are so many dogs that would make fabulous pets. Please help us make a difference by spreading the word--share this blog on your Facebook page, Tweet about it too.

You can also have your pet micro-chipped for only $20 right at the shelter. That way if your pet is ever lost, he or she can be returned to you quickly when they are picked up by animal control.

The Animal Care and Adoption Center is located at 203 Harrison St., Texarkana, Ark. 71854 and is open Monday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Call for information 870-773-6388.
