Hundreds of pets are lost every year in Texarkana. Owners panic when they realize that their beloved pet is missing.

Here are the steps you can use to locate your lost pet:

  1. Check the animal shelter daily. Physically go to the shelter and look for your dog. Do not depend on the shelter staff to search through hundreds of animals looking for a dog or cat that they have never seen. The shelter is located at 203 Harrison, Texarkana, Arkansas.
  2. Report your lost pet to the City of Texarkana, Texas Animal Control at 903-798-3971. There is only one animal shelter in Texarkana but there are separate animal control departments for each side of the state line.
  3. File a lost report with the animal shelter 870-773-6388 as soon as you know your pet is missing.
  4. Run a lost advertisement in the Texarkana Gazette by calling 903-794-3311. There is a small fee to run a line ad in the classifieds. You can run a display ad in the classifieds with a photo for only $10 a day. Also check the found ads under "Announcements" and "Pets" to see if someone has found your pet.
  5. Post photos of your lost pet on your Facebook page as well as the pages for the Texarkana Humane Society and Texarkana Animal League. Be sure to check the pages for the area rescue groups to see if they have anything posted about finding your pet.
  6. Plaster fliers with photos of your lost pet anywhere you can.
  7. Send an email with a photo, description of your pet and your contact information to Pets@TexarkanaAnimalLeague.org. They will circulate the email to their contact list.
  8. Call the local boarding facilities and vet clinics to see if someone is paying to have your pet stay there rather than take it to the shelter:
