2016 American Music Awards Winners

The American Music Awards have been showing love to hip-hop for years. In 2015, Nicki Minaj and The Weeknd walked away winners and this year, hip-hop has the chance to do the same. As the 2016 awards show kicks off tonight (Nov. 20), rappers have the chance to earn some big wins in categories ranging from Artist of the Year to Video of the Year.

Drake is clearly Mr. Popularity this year, racking up 13 nominations. He competes against Adele, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Twenty One Pilots, Carrie Underwood and The Weeknd for Artist of the Year while he pops up in the same category twice for Favorite Album - Rap/Hip-Hop. The Toronto native's Views and his collaboration project What a Time to Be Alive with Future are in the running up against Fetty Wap and his self-titled album.

Drizzy walked home a winner in the Favorite Hip-Hop Album (Views), Favorite Hip-Hop Artist, Favorite Hip-Hop Song ("Hotline Bling") and Favorite Soul/R&B Song (Rihanna's "Work") categories.

The Weeknd was also recognized for Favorite Male Artist - Pop/Rock, where he competed against Drake and Justin Bieber, and Favorite Male Artist - Soul/R&B, going head to head with Chris Brown and Bryson Tiller.

Ty Dolla $ign earned a Collaboration of the Year award for his part in Fifth Harmony's "Work From Home."

Those are just a few of hip-hop's best and brightest vying for an honor. Besides the awards, catch performances from Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, DJ Khaled, Rick Ross, Future and August Alsina.
